ABOUT THE GRENVILLE SECONDARY SCHOOL

on September 9th, 1983, the Grenville Secondary School come into being as Jeremiah Richardson Secondary, with 116 students and 6 staff members. Mr. Stephen Wall was the first principal while Messrs. R. Reuben, D. Beggs, E. Samuel and Misses E. Charles, and P. Scoon were the first teachers appointed by the Ministry of Education to start the school.

 

At the end of the first month, there were 186 students enrolled 46 of these were transferred to us from the St. Andrews Junior Secondary School, after passing an examination set by us, and the reminder comprised students who passed the school the leaving exam, or came to us on transfer from other secondary schools.

 

Misses L. Bubb and D. Roberts joined the staff on the 15th of September of the same year.

Mrs. S Cambell and Mr. c. Mc.Intyre of the Junior Secondary School were asked to teach Home Economics and Industrial Arts respectively, to our Students.

 

by the end of the 1st term, all major structures for a secondary school were put in place. The Deanery System, Students Council, subject committees and departments, the school's code, record books, PTA, house system, monthly general knowledge contest and extra -curricular programme of 10 clubs and societies were established.

 

the uniform, which is worn, was designed by a committee of parents: Mrs. W. Strachan (Deceased), Mrs.E. Fortune, Mrs. M. Lalitte, Mrs. A. Mark and Miss F. Alexander.
